Just In: Revlon Matte Lipsticks

So about a month ago, a bought a MAC Freckletone lipstick and after only a week later, i'd lost it. >:\ not very happy... so i did some research and when i found that Revlon's matte collection lipsticks worked just as well, i had to try them out.

Needless to say, i was quite impressed, and thanks to priceline's buy 2 revlon products, get one free, i managed to score these 3 babies for only 42 bucks :)

What i brought home: (l -> r) Just Enough Buff (Super Lustrous) Lipstick, Pink Pout (Matte), and Nude Attitude (Matte).

ahhh its love. The first lipstick kinda reminds me of Mac's Freckletone so i was pretty impressed by that (a little dry but you know...its a nice peachy-pink colour for my NC35 skintone). Also, i've always wanted a barbie pink colour so... probably when i find something to wear it with, i'll test it out. Finally, 'Nude Attitude' comes off quite similar to Mac's 'Myth' so yeahhhh :) i'm quite happy w/ my purchases. love nudey lips xx

I loved everything about this novel-turned-movie (and no, i didn't just watch this for the first time). Kate Winslet & Leonardo Dicaprio make such a powerful duo. In 'Titanic', while they managed to pull off the 'you jump, i jump' relationship, 'Revolutionary Road' was more intense than anything romantic. I can actually kind of see myself relating to April's character (not in the present sense) but i guess, there's just something out of her tragic life that i empathise with - The desperation, feeling stuck-in a rut, and with nowhere to escape to. Frank's character was also just as moving. Whilst he did show a deep love for April, his own capacities and unheroicness failed to let him realise or rather, acknowledge how troubled she was, and how indeed trapped they both were in their own mundane, little lives. Some people can live with it, others prefer to move.

And this, when pieced together with the piano & violin in the background... It left me with a feeling just as it did when i walked out of the movie 'Capote.' Empty, and a little sad.

So the moral? "Be kind to everyone you meet, they're fighting a battle you know nothing about."

MAC & OPI Haul

Gahhh it's love. So there comes a time in every little girls life, when she needs to pull her finances together, head out to the MAC store, and empty her wallet.

Well, in this little girl's story, her handsome boyfriend had decided to do it for her.
Naww, i feel spoilt.

Over the weekend, Berny wanted to to make-up for lost gifts, so he went with me to the M.A.C store in Myer on Pitts to get me some goodiesss.

The O.P.I Nail Polishes i bought for myself (seeing as i was on the hunt for some nude colours) but Berny ended up getting me around 4 Mac Brushes (217, 219, 238 and 187) as well as Macs Paint Pot in Painterlyy. nom nom nom. they're so yummy. This will pretty much be it for a long whileee (and yes, i decorated them with some christmas ornaments. whateverr. haha).

O.P.I colours (L- R) (i love the names): 'Pinking of you', 'I'll take the Cake', and 'Let them eat rice cakes'.

They're all kinda similar, but initially, i had bought the second colour (thinking that it was opaque) in the city at some anal place that wouldn't allow testers... so unaware that it would take me 6 friggen coats to achieve the actual colour of the bottle, i brought it home.

Grrr. totally sucked. took soo long for it to set, and obviously, seeing as i wasn't one to wait around all day, i decided to do some cleaning etc, and yeah... my nails were completely wrecked by the end of it. So yesterday, i went to my local stores (that actually allowed me to test them out) and found the other two colours (1 for $15, 2 for $25) so yeah. prob would still do at least 3 coats but its better than 6. that's all for my mini haul. enjoy xx

So after years of trying avoid the whole twilight-phenomena, i must say, only yesterday had i begun to appreciate its worth. I started reading from New Moon (yes, starting from the second book of a series is not something i would normally do, but i just wanted to read up on what i don't already know), and i must say, i'm... kinda... rather... interested. lol (i've only read around 150 ish pages, but i must comment on how i loved the whole blank pages for the passing months)

awww how insanely hot does madisyn ritland (right) look? those eyes are to die for.

overall i was extremly impressed by this runway. Make-up and hair was perfect, models were beautiful and last but not least, the pieces were absolute perfection. To describe it in three words, the collection was feminine, verrry sexy and no less than sophisticated. i die.

My only wish was that i could've been there to witness it in person.

i don't know if i've really said this before, but i absolutely adore seeing make-up. especially eyeshadow! sometimes... when i'm all alone, i'd just sit there and pray that i would one day wake up eyelids like mum's - just so i can put eyeshadow on (LOL, ok that was an absolute lie). lol but seriously, her ones are perfect for make-up. mine on the other hand.. are a teeny bit trickier. grr

lately, i havent really been able to use eyeshadow at all seeing as:
a) assessments/exams
b) my lack of appropriate colours

but not anymore! hehe are my new buys =)

M.A.C 12 colour eyeshadow palettes. sigh. best things ever.

The last photo just shows a collection of all my favourite stuff. sigh. just having them all in once place makes me smile (lol).
and of course, the shu uemura eyelash curler was a bday gift from the beautiful ally! i loves it xxxx

yayy last exam was at 930 yestermorn. ahhhh life is great!

to be honest, it was a bit of a bitter-sweet moment leaving the exam room yesterday. choosing to do ancient greece as a make-up subject from first year, was quite possible one of the furthest things away from social work that i could pick, but just knowing that it was going to be my last elective subject (ever) in uni, it was a little sad! oh god, this is so lame.

I guess it also had to do with the fact that all my history lectures had clashed w/ my social work ones, so i was never really able to attend. i dunno, it just felt so strange that for the whole of semester, i never even gotten to see what my lecturer looked like ( i dunno about you, but to me, it's a lil strange). Thankfully, seeing as it was a first-year subject, i was able to catch up w/ weekly audio-recordings (joy) but yeah, the professor just seemed like such a wise and intelligent person (who was actually able to make the study of history, fun) so it would've been nice to at least meet him. hah

oh well, ITS OVER. yayyy time to party now!

Ahhhhh only 6 days to go before my last exam and i honestly feel as though i won't have enough time. These last 2 months have been crazy hectic w/ final assessments for Social Work. What's left of course, is my makeup course in Ancient History, Greece to be exact. gahh i honestly don't know anything... ! oh well. i still have this week. and the exams is at 9 30 in the fucking morning on a saturday. WTF!!

In 2 days I get my work placement letter. eek. I'm actually a little anxious as to where they're going to place me. please be somewhere nice! and clean... lol

just the other day i had a flashback of highschool. particularly of the day after all the year 12s had gone to study for their hsc, and suddenly there were all these new places up for grabs in the 'playground.'

lol those were fun days.

but hey, today's not looking too bad either =)

Artist Statement (to the MCA in 2009)
By Yayoi Kusama:
My message to the world : ‘Love Forever ’

When I was about ten years old, I began painting pictures and making sculpture-like objects by lining up small pebbles from a river behind my parents’ house on the dried river bed. These are the origins of the forms that I have been creating throughout my life ever since I can remember, giving it my all. I have been treading a long path of my forevershining life seeking the truth, evolving continually. All my life I have had aspirations for world peace and love, with a deep and passionate ‘hymn of praise to humanity’.

During this process, I always envision the continual and repetitive appearances and disappearances of beauty-generating hallucinations that well up in my mind. I named this phenomenon ‘stereotypical repetition’.

During the days of my never-ending life of hard work, I developed a ‘psychosomatic syndrome’ as a result of painting too many pictures. I have translated this into my work through a large number of diverse themes that include: ‘Prisoner Behind a Curtain of Depersonalisation’, ‘Sex, Food Obsession’, ‘Aggregated Earth’, ‘Infinite Space of the Universe’, ‘Psychosomatic Art’, ‘Longing for the Universe’, ‘Driving Image’, ‘Cellular Thinking’, ‘Death of Vacuum’, ‘Are There Ends in the Universe?’ among others. From now until the last day of my life, I will keep developing my creative process and my artistic philosophy while maintaining an artistic position on everything.

I may be physically getting older, but I am ever so enthusiastic now about creating art work. My consistent avantgarde approach to art, I think, has exerted a great influence on the art work of American and European artists, as well as other artists, especially Lucas Samaras’ Mirror Room, Claes Oldenburg’s Soft Sculpture and Andy Warhol’s Stereotypical Repetition: Cow Wallpaper, in which cow heads are repeatedly shown on posters all over the walls. These are the historically famous titles Kusama invented. I have been involved in Pop art, Minimal art, Happenings, Environments, Avant-garde films and others, as well as in Zero in Europe, while pursuing and realising my philosophy of art.

My ever inexhaustible energies will continue to evolve as long as I live beyond the limit of my body. The incredible beauty of humanity for which I say ‘Love Forever’. I have been struggling throughout my life with this everlasting message.

I believe my aspirations will not fade away after I am gone and I want to leave it to those interested in my art as a message from Yayoi Kusama – an eternal wish for ‘peace’ and the renunciation of war based on ‘humanity’.

So for the past few weeks i've been pretty out of the whole shopping scene due to uni commitments/lack of inspiration. Browsing online doesn't really help much either. For most of the time, i'd completely die over how amazing something is, and then i'd just be shitting myself over the ratio of shipping over actual cost, how expensive it would be when i convert it to AUS dollars, and in the end, i'd just be left feeling resentful of the fact that i live in Aus and not overseas.

So usually when i do my weekly round of citystore browsing, it'd be pretty rare for me to find anything that i would totally fall in love with. However, when i went back to the city yesterday to do a bit of window shopping, i seriously... nearly died at how many things i found. there was like, SOOOO. MUCH. STUFF. like Cream My Pants kinda stuff. and everywhere! wtf?

shoes frm ZU were amazzinggg,

jumpers/shirts at sportsgirl were fucking sexy (too bad i didn't have the money)

and the selection of guyswear at General Pants were right on the money.

(not to mention all the clothes and jewellery at paddy's market. best. thing. ever.)

lol such a shame i couldn't take anything home w/ me =( yeah, yeah, i know. get a job.

DIY Studded Boots - Complete!

so for the past few weeks, i've been (slooooooooooooowly) trying to finish my DIY studded boots project. and YES, it's finally done!! overall, it's probably taken me about 2 weeks to complete?? probably around 4-5 hours if you work non-stop. Bleh.

What you'll need (don't laugh, my tools were rather primative):

A pair of plain black boots - preferably with straps, but if not, you can always use thin belts, thick material, etc (anything you can stud to get the whole 'wrapped around' effect)
Arounddd... 150-200 x 3/8" studs (i got mine from ebay through spikesandleather)
A metal ruler
A thick needle, x-acto knife, OR in my case, the needle tip of my Staedtler protractor.
A metalic pen
Commitment!! (lame, but for a project that takes thisss much effort, it's VERY easy to just want to give up half way)

What i started off with:

Studding:
Start by unwrapping the straps from the boots (or, taking out 2 long straps of material (roughly 1.5cm thick). Then, with your stud, place the first it right at the beginning of the strap (preferably in the centre) and push down so you create two dents into the frabric. Then, using the using the dents as a guideline, take your needle (or what have you) and make two small incisions (in order for the pins of the stud to push though). Then, using your metal ruler, measure down the strap starting from the first incision and (using your metalic pen) place a dot on every 1.2cms down the strap. Do the same on the other side (this would create a look down your strap resembling ---> {: : : : : : :}. With the dots in place, make small incisions with your needle etc into the dots, and then continue studding the boots (pushing the studs through the fabric, and using your metal ruler to bind down the pins on the other side).

This is what it ended up looking like:

Before i cut to my epic Friday adventure w/ Ben and the one and only Isabel =)

First, to my lunch in Surry Hills. Mmmmmm Chicken Sandwich @ Harry's Cafe (and for only $7)

nom, nom, nom. Notice how i'd already taken a few bites before the shot? what can i say, i hadn't eated lunch yet, it was 2pm, i was fucking starving! loll

After hoping around a few stores (in particular, Cheap Monday for the sale) we then headed off to my lover of a tattoo parlour, The Illustrated Man.

What i got was a key resembling the cute little necklace that Isabel got me for christmas the year before (best present ever!). She has that key tattooed on her as well, but mine has a few (significant) variations to it. My tattooist was Elliott =) He was the guy who did Berny's YNWA Tat. Pretty easy going once you like... get on the same page as him. At first i wanted the key to be just a 2d version of what it is (no shading, etc), but he convinced me otherwise. Gahhh, I love it =)

(i looked particularly horrible today. bleh. i blame it on my assessment that was due in... among other things)

When i got home:

Overall, i had a really, really good Friday =) yay for tattoos. For next time, i'm thinking. either the feather... or Cherry Blossoms xxx

So after yesterday's disappointment when i found that a blazer, which i had already paid for, had been over sold/out of stock... i was left determined as ever to find me something to make up for it (lol well, not really, it just kinda sounded good saying it).

So today on the way to Glebe Youth Centre for a social work tutorial, the girls and i decided take a detour into the little op shops along the way. Needless to say, our findings were more than pleasing =)
